Check a contractor's license
In Florida, screen and aluminum enclosure work is a licensed specialty under the Construction Industry Licensing Board. Before you hire anyone, ask for their license number and check it on the Florida DBPR license search.
Frequently asked questions
What is spline?
Spline is the rubber cord pressed into a channel in the frame to hold the screen tight. Old spline can shrink or crack, letting screens pull loose.
Do HOA rules apply to screen repairs?
Some HOAs have rules about screen color or enclosure changes. Check with your HOA before changing screen type or color.
What should I check after a storm?
Look for torn panels, screens pulled out of their channels, bent or loose framing and missing screws. Keep people out from under any framing that looks damaged.
